„Mad World” apartine frmatiei engleze Tears for Fears. Scris de catre Roland Orzabalsi cantat de catre basistul Curt Smith, a fost primul single alnsat al formatiei si primul lor hit (noiembrie 1982).  Aproape doua decenii mai tarziu cantecul a fost practic relansat intr-o versiune mai lenta, stil balada, de catre Michael Andrews si  Gary Jules pentru soundtrackul filmului Donnie Darko. Autorul versurilor nu si-a asumat un mesaj propriu-zis, lasand libera optiune celor care asculta melodia.
