Original, Superstar aparíne grupului Delaney & Boney (care avea o compozitie vairata, in jurul lui Bonnie Bramlett, Leo Russel, Eric Clapton). Titlul originale era Gruppie Song si vorbea despre despre avatarurile sentimentale ale unei admiratoare r’n’r. Lansat in 1969 pe partea B a lui „Comin’ home” cantecul era o balada cuprinzand parti lente de chitara si chitara bas, urcand ]nspre un final apropiat de un gospel.
aranjamentul Carpenters cuprindea o linie de oboi la star, urmata de vocea de contraalto a lui Karen Carpenter, acompaniata de chitara, iar inspre final de coarde si oboi (aici era implicata o formatie de studio, Wrecking Crew) . Cantecul a fost lansat in 1971 pe albumul Carpenters.
